Our tip for parents
Visit earlier in the morning if you want the widest choice from the cake cabinet and light food selection! On Saturdays, the outdoor tables can fill up quickly, so an earlier visit gives you a better chance of settling in.
Teahouse
Address: 253 George Street, Bathurst, 2795
Opening hours: 10 am to 4:30 pm Thursday to Friday, 10 am to 1 pm Saturday
Teahouse is a lovely place to take kids on a special outing with parents, grandparents or friends. Set inside a charming Bathurst building with a French-inspired feel, it offers a quieter cafe experience that can feel like a special treat for older children.
The tea room serves a wide selection of handcrafted tea blends in individual pots and teacups. Sweet treats are also available, and the adjoining teacup and gift shop give mini explorers plenty to marvel at before heading home.
Thursday and Friday afternoon trading makes Teahouse especially convenient for an end-of-week stop after daycare or preschool.
If everyone’s running low on energy, you can also pick up a treat to take away instead of staying for a full sit-down visit.
Our tip for parents
Teahouse is a lovely pick for older children who enjoy a quieter outing and the novelty of a more grown-up cafe experience!
Dynasty’s Rockabilly
Address: 203 George Street, Bathurst, 2795
Opening hours: 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Tuesday to Friday, 8 am to 3 pm Saturday, 8:30 am to 2:30 pm Sunday
Dynasty’s Rockabilly is a fun pick for families who want a cafe with plenty of personality near Eglinton.
The colourful 1950s American diner theme offers plenty for kids to enjoy, while the lively atmosphere makes it feel more like an adventure than a quick stop for something to eat.
The menu mixes American diner favourites with familiar Australian cafe food, including bacon and egg rolls, sloppy joes, loaded hot dogs and sliders. There’s plenty for kids to pick from, with generous options that work well for an early lunch or afternoon treat.
Dessert is a big part of the appeal here. Families can choose from sundaes, milkshakes and more unusual treats like funnel cakes and deep-fried marshmallows!
Our tip for parents
Pair your visit with a trip to Bathurst Adventure Playground, around four blocks from the CBD. The dual flying fox, large sandpit, climbing walls, maze and dinosaur sculptures are ideal for burning off energy before or after your cafe stop.
Bathurst River Cafe

There’s lots on the menu for appetites big and small, too, including homemade cakes, smoothies, açaí bowls, bacon and egg rolls and seasonal dishes.
Parents can enjoy coffee from Little Coffee Co, while gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options make it easier to accommodate various dietary requirements.
Our tip for parents
Book ahead and request an outdoor table so you can make the most of the riverside setting. The lawns and gardens make this a particularly gorgeous spot for some family snaps!

Its vine-covered courtyard feels tucked away from the street, creating a relaxed spot for a quick coffee, a snack with kids or an easy Saturday morning catch-up.
Moubar also has a fun local backstory. The business began as a vintage-style caravan, adding a playful point of difference that curious kids will enjoy.

Our tip for parents
Try to arrive by around 2 pm, so you have time to order and enjoy your meal before the 3 pm close. Weekends can get busy, so booking ahead is a good idea.
Good Catch Cafe
Address: 1/85 George Street, Bathurst, 2795

Good Catch Cafe is best for those afternoons when daycare pick-up rolls straight into dinner time. The kitchen reopens at 4 pm, perfect for families who want to sit down for an early meal or grab takeaway before everyone gets too tired and hungry.
Fish and chips are the main attraction. That said, the menu also includes Asian-inspired dishes like chicken dumplings and salt and pepper squid, so children have the chance to try something a bit different while still keeping familiar favourites within reach.
Our tip for parents
Good Catch is in the Bathurst CBD, so allow a few extra minutes to find a park before dinner. Street parking is available around George Street, but check the signs when you arrive as time limits apply across much of the CBD.
Hometown Cafe
Address: Shop 1/38 William Street, Bathurst, 2795

Another great spot for young taste buds, Hometown Café serves Western favourites and Asian-inspired dishes. From Wednesday to Friday, the café reopens at 5 pm, making it easy to fit in an early meal before the evening routine kicks in.
Its menu has plenty of approachable choices for children. Little ones can keep things simple with popcorn chicken and fries, while parents tuck into a delicious sushi bowl.
That mix of familiar and new flavours makes Hometown a good place for families with different tastes, especially if you want to encourage kids to try something beyond their usual café order without taking too much of a gamble.
Our tip for parents
If you’re visiting with a fussy eater, start with something familiar and add dumplings, tempura or another small dish to ease them into new flavours.
Annie’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlour
Address: 82/86 George Street, Bathurst, 2795
Opening hours: 9 am to 5:30 pm Monday to Wednesday, 9 am to 9 pm Thursday to Friday, 10 am to 9 pm Saturday, 11 am to 5:30 pm Sunday
This one isn’t technically a cafe. That said, it’s one of our favourite things to do in Bathurst with kids!
Annie’s has been a scrumptious staple since 1983, and feels made for little celebrations. One scoop after daycare, a milkshake on the weekend or dessert after dinner can turn an ordinary afternoon into a core memory.
Kids will love the retro milk bar-style counter, where picking from the ice cream cabinet can be just as exciting as eating it!
The ice cream is made on site, with a variety of classic favourites and flavours featuring a local twist. The standout is Sofala Gold, a mix of honeycomb caramel goodness that takes its name from the historic gold-rush town nearby.
Our tip for parents
Make the most of the later Thursday and Friday hours and save Annie’s for an after-dinner delight. It’s an easy way to stretch out a special family evening.
